More and more gluten-free events are popping up around the San Francisco Bay Area! What a change from when I was first diagnosed with celiac disease 7 years ago. GLUTEN-FREE COOKING CLASSES in Novato (Oct. 15, 22, 29)
Fresh Starts Cooking School in Novato has planned a series of three classes featuring gluten-free recipes in our new demonstration kitchen at The Next Key Center in Hamilton. Fresh Starts Cooking School is a project of Homeward Bound of Marin, the chief provider of shelter and services to homeless families and adults in Marin. The school is an offshoot of the culinary job-training program and provides not only revenue to support their programs but also work experience for students who help with class prep. GLUTEN-FREE EVENT at The Pasta Shop in Oakland (Oct. 17)
Jacqueline Mallorca, author of the cookbook The Wheat-Free Cook will be signing copies of her brand new book, Gluten-Free Italian. Chefs will be handing out samples of selected recipes,
and selling gluten-free foods from the book from their deli counter. The Pasta Shop carries

HIPP KITCHEN debuts restaurant certification program and a dinner
to help people with FOOD SENSITIVITIES in San Francisco (Oct. 17)
Hipp Kitchen (Hipp is short for Hippocrates), created by personal chef Tom Herndon and nutritionist Willie Victor, is dedicated to creating fun, rich, and healthy dining experiences for people with food allergies and sensitivities.
They are focusing on a restaurant certification program where they work with the chef to develop prix fixe menus free of gluten, soy, dairy, shellfish, peanuts and processed sugar. The menu reflects the chef’s culinary point of view and then becomes part of the restaurant’s portfolio. Their intention is to provide LOTS of choices for the allergenista community and to increase the pleasures of dining out.

GLUTEN-FREE FOOD FAIR at Draeger’s in Danville (Nov. 8 )
The Draeger’s Gluten-Free Club will have another event, this time at the Danville store. The theme will be on cooking, eating and entertaining “gluten-free” during the holidays. Jacqueline Mallorca will be speaking (you have to sign up for the talks as space is limited in their demonstration kitchens). Vendors will be situated throughout the store, sampling their gluten-free foods. As always, Draeger’s will be fully stocked with an incredible variety of gluten-free foods.
